Front Door Live Edge Wood Bench with Coat Hooks for Guests

When I designed my house, I new I wanted a small area for guests to kick off their shoes and hang their coat without having to have a coat closet. Yes, we have a mudroom, but that's for our mess. Haha! So with the help of my dad, of course, he built this GORGEOUS live edge bench. Then I created the lived edge coat hook rack to match.

To complete the look, make sure to have a rug. I got this Jute Runner Rug at Amazon along with a Non Slip Rug Pad. I love the warm accents of the natural wood and jute rug.

A lot of sanding went into this bench, but well worth it. My Black & Decker Mouse Sander worked great for all the nooks and crannies.

It's hard to sand live edge to loosen up all the loose bark and smooth it out without losing the character of the wood. This drill attachment worked great for the live edge areas.

Believe it or not, my dad actually wanted to burn the chunk of wood that is the top of the bench. But I picked out that piece and had been saving it for over a year knowing I wanted to make a bench out of it...so glad I did! :)
