I've been itching to whip up this rock-solid table ever since I got my hands dirty with concrete. We really wanted a beefed-up sidekick for our outdoor shenanigans by the campfire – a spot to park our hotdogs, stash the s'mores fixings, and keep our drinks chillaxed.
Of course, we used it the same night during a campfire hering with friends. However, being the host, I neglected to capture a photo of it in use.
DIY Instructions:
Cut cedar 2x4s to length. I made the height of the 4 boards 20" each. The long middle bottom is 13" and the 2 smaller bottom pieces are 4.75".
Use a Kreg Jig to make pocket holes and screw all the pieces together...see pics below.
I used a 20" silicone mold. Mix QuickCrete as instructed and pour into mold. Since this was my first attempt, I put the wood base into the concrete a little too early and you could see the 2x4 imprints. Next time, I will let the concrete set a little more.
To fix the imperfections, I used 220 grit sandpaper and sanded in a circular motion. I also sanded the rough edges.
To seal the cedar and bring out the beautiful color of the wood, I used a rag to wipe on Linseed Oil.
Finally, I used a concrete sealer on the top to help preserve and waterproof a little more.
