Rabbits are known to go crazy for carrots, so this treat will definitely put a big smile on their adorable faces. Trust me, they'll be begging for more! Your furry pals will love you forever for this delicious surprise!

Carrot Truffle Rabbit Treats

Ok, so we admit, they look pretty gross, and smell like rabbit pellets. But they were a lot of fun to make, and Snowball (our pet rabbit) really likes them.

We got the original recipe from BunnyLady.com who has lots of great tips. We modified the recipe slightly with what we had available.

Ingredients

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°.

2. Prepare your ingredients by grinding the pellets. If you don't have a food processor, no worries! You can still crush those pellets into smaller pieces or even create a powder-like consistency. Just place them in a ziplock bag and grab a meat tenderizer. It's not only effective but also adds an extra layer of enjoyment by letting you release some built-up energy. Happy smashing!

3. Puree the banana and carrots together with a blender. Ava had a lot of fun doing this part, and this part actually smells good. Looks like you're making baby food. :)

4. Then combine all the ingredients to form a thick dough with the consistency of cookie dough. This part was trickier. Original recipe said to just add a few drops of water to make it a moldable and non-crumbling consistency... we had to add a lot of water and they were still a bit crumbly. We had a smaller banana, so that might have been part of the problem that the pellets were holding together as well.

5. Once you have your dough, use your hands to roll it into little balls and place on a prepared baking sheet. I used a cookie scoop to help make them a consistent size, but you still need your hands to mold them together better.

6. Once you have your carrot truffles arranged on a baking sheet, put them in the oven for 30 minutes and then keep them in for another hour after the oven has been turned off. This will allow the truffle balls to continue drying out without browning too much or burning.

7. After the carrot truffles have dried out, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool off completely. You should avoid giving your rabbit more than one of these treats in a day. Extras can be stored in a container on the counter, or refrigerated to stay fresh longer.
